The Case of Jerome
Jerome, please come on home to me
You’re my partner in life, we’ve traveled the world over land, over sea
We’ve had such adventure together, moving all about
Why, only when you wander off do I ever pout, well, okay, I freak out
But, oh Jerome, baby, you know, we’ve been through it before
Please, come on home
You’ve been gone a week now, Jerome, 12th time this year
So what am I supposed to think, Jerome, when you disappear?
You possess such dramatic flare, you could be anywhere
In another’s care, or stranded, vulnerable, left bare
You looked quite ragged the last time you returned
Zipper undone, my stomach churned
Thought I'’d been burned
Then I learned you hadn’t defected
But rather were temporarily misdirected
You came back to me with only the odd scratch
But did I ask any questions, no I took you back in a snatch
Makes me teary eyed now, feeling blue, missing having you
Oh Jerome, baby, please, don’t make me beg, ya da ya da
Please, come home
Oh Jerome, where do you go when you stray?
I’ve heard you’ve seen more than I of Europe, Africa and the USA
The thought of another’s hand touching you drives me insane
I’ve invested so much, I have the right to complain
Are you wheeling about in circles on your own all alone?
Waiting to be picked up while I wait by the phone?
You really are a sad case and
I’m not enjoying this ongoing chase
I know I push you around too much
But we carry each other through life, and are not each other’s crutch
I have your 8x10 photo with me everywhere I go
Just in case people ask about you, I have this to show
Your color kodachrome, Jerome, carrier of my heart and soul
I hold the key, please come back to me, I need you
When you’re gone I feel naked, full of despair
Damn United, Lufthansa, Cathay Pacific and British Air
You’re the best darn suitcase, your my honeycomb
Besides, you have my favourite pair of Jimmy Choo stilettoes
Oh Jerome, bring ‘em home!
